This day’s commute calls for ground clearance. I still love these gauges, even though some don’t work.
On the note of driving it today, in the process of moving it yesterday, I remembered that I need to find the previous owner... To berate(possibly torture) them for installing an alarm and hacking up the positive side battery cable.

It’s amazing some of the hackjobs I’ve been privy to over the years. A number of years ago I owned a Chevy Corsica that had some weird ass immobilizer system in in. I needed to essentially keep this big chip (almost like an oversized SD Card) plugged in under my dash in order for the car to start. The problem? The thing heated up fairly quickly, so if you were doing a bunch of runs different places there would come a point where the car wouldn't start until the chip cooled down. I got in a habit of just taking the chip out and throwing it in the freezer after a while.

80's Toyota gauges are good gauges. If I had a Toyobaru I'd consider building retro gauges for it. Then chicken out.

I learned yesterday that my tires do not like the rain. Every time I started from a dead stop, I was getting tire spin through first and second gear. I was like shit, this car is making like 110hp to the wheels how the hell are the tires spinning this much?? I think it was extra slippery out though since I did see a couple of accidents sitting on the side of the road so maybe it wasn’t just me.

We're getting soaked down here on the coast. Stay safe up yonder.

Another reason I didn’t drive the FiST. Stop and go traffic in the rain can lead to lots of wheel spin and hop.

It doesn’t hurt anything, and it makes it slightly quicker. So it stays on.

We are supposed to get slightly less soaked, but soaked none the less. You stay safe as well!

It auto turns off on my LS400 (via magic because I have no clue how) but I used to use it more but after I got no life out of my tires and I decided the little green light made me drive faster

Those are mid to early 90s gauges. My 1994 and 1995 are the same as the above. 80s gauges are even more basic.

There are some fine font differences and the auxiliary gauges are linear as opposed to arcs (and more numerous), but they’re instantly recognizable to anyone who’s owned a Toyota from around 81-96

Truth. I saw these and thought of the 4Runners I’ve worked on. My 82 truck has the arcs you speak of:
